Deep Roots

Our connection to the Central Coast runs deeper than a career — it runs through generations of California history.

We are descendants of Joaquin Tomas Estrada, born in 1815 in Monterey, Alta California. In 1841, Mexican Governor Manuel Jimeno granted 17,734 acres to the twenty-six-year-old Joaquin Estrada — the Rancho Santa Margarita, rated “first class” and taxed at a maximum premium. It was one of the most celebrated ranchos of its era, famous for its rodeos, fiestas, and the extraordinary horsemanship of its vaqueros.

That legacy is more than a name on a land grant — it is the reason the Kiff family farms the Central Coast today. The soil, the seasons, and the deep sense of stewardship that defined the rancheros are the same values that guide every decision we make in the vineyard. We are caretakers of a landscape our ancestors helped shape, and that responsibility is woven into everything we do.
