Alongside an ancient seasonal creek, surrounded by old-growth oaks, sits a small planting of heritage Zinfandel. One and a half acres. Old vines. A living piece of Paso Robles winegrowing history — currently under thoughtful restoration, with missing vines replanted and trellis infrastructure renewed, ensuring the vineyard's legacy for the generations to come.

Overview
Nestled within the rolling hills of the Willow Creek District, Woodpecker Ranch is a 1.5-acre planting of heritage Zinfandel vines including a small mixed interplanting of Mataro. Set alongside an ancient seasonal creek bed and surrounded by old-growth oak trees, the vineyard enjoys a uniquely tranquil setting that feels untouched by time.

Terroir
Clay-rich alluvial soils deposited by the seasonal creek that runs alongside the vineyard. The clay retains moisture longer than the shale of our hillside sites, but the old vines have adapted — their deep root systems drawing from layers of soil laid down over decades. The result is fruit with remarkable depth and vibrancy.
Viticultural Philosophy
This vineyard is not about volume. It is about preservation. Every decision is guided by a commitment to the character and heritage of the original vines. We farm them carefully, by hand, with respect for what they represent — a connection to Paso Robles' winemaking past.
